To
make our fabrics a rustic loom "a pala" is used.
It is a kind of wooden frame on which the threads are tightened.
Again the technique used is known as "face of weft",
threads placed horizontally on the loom, in which the design
is obtained from the weaving of threads of different colours
that cover the warp (threads placed vertically on the loom).
The
fabrics of Runa-Kamaq Argentinean Crafts are made of sheep
or "llama" wool. It is made of rustic wool that
requires a process of washing before its use. For its drying
it is exposed to the sun during several hours. Some of the
colours of the fabrics are characteristic of the wool of the
sheep or "llama" such as black, white or brown in
their various hues. Other colours are
obtained by means of a dyeing process, boiling the wool with
the tints until the wanted colour is obtained. Natural tints
are used such as the one from nut shells (for the light browns),
jarilla (for the yellow) beet root (dark pink), onion (soft
red) which are boiled during several hours. Aniline is also
used.
Some of our fabrics are finished with the technique of the
"comb", a process that consists in lifting the hair
of the wool once the garment is made, giving it a softer texture
and appearance.
Recommendations for their laundry are : to use cold water,
liquid soap for wool garments or fine clothes, not to centrifuge
nor to expose to the sun for their drying.
Various alternatives of colours and measures can be required.
